Web Server / FTP Instructions

To place/upload your HTML documents and graphic/media files on the JJC Student Web server, you will need to use a FTP client (Core_FTP, WS_FTP Pro, WS_FTP HOME, Fetch or something similar). A FTP client is built into many popular HTML editors (FrontPage, Dreamweaver, GoLive and BBEdit).

The FTP client requires...

  1. A FTP host address. Use 216.125.170.82 if off campus or 10.0.170.82 if on campus
  2. An user name:  JJC account user name with preceding "Joliet\ "
          Example: joliet\jdole
  3. A Password:  JJC account password.
  4. A Path or Root directory: if left blank you will be placed in the root directory of your web site on the web server.

The FTP client will "PUT" files from your local directory structure to your own personal student web site on the web server. Make sure the HTML documents transfer as text and the graphic/media files as binary/raw data. Once the files are transferred to your own personal student web site on the web server, you will be able to access them with the following URL:  http://www3.jjc.edu/(semester)/(User Name)/(path/file name)   where the (file name) is the file name of the HTML document you are trying to access. If the (file name) is omitted the Web server will try to serve a file called "default.htm"
