About Alien Vision Productions:
Alien Vision is a group of kids between the ages of ten and twenty from
the Chicagoland area who have banded together in the hope of making a
good (and funny) movie without tons of inappropriate content. A
completely youth-run Christian organization, it has set out to make
movies that are glorifying to God and uplifting to the viewers.
“It all started when our director, Jeremy, had this crazy idea of
making a movie that was a spoof of Star-Wars.” says Daniel Taylor, a
charter member talking about Jeremy Lynch, the visionary “ring leader”
of the group. Jeremy, who just turned twenty, started the group when he
was 18. He believes that people should use the time when they are young
to do something to make a difference in the world. “I believe that
there is no people group better equipped to change the world than
youth.” says the young director. Initially he had planned to make a
short and silly YouTube™ video over the summer of 2007, but as he
reached out to his friends for help, everyone realized that they could
do much better then that.
The close-knit group of teens quickly decided to develop a
board of directors to oversee various operations that make up the
overall project. After appointing nine board members to lead, the whole
group expanded to about 21 members and began to work.
The Board has written their own bylaws, code of conduct, and even a
membership contract, and quickly learned the structure that is
necessary to run a business. However, while they now had a group of
talented and ambitious kids, not one of them knew how to actually make
a full-length movie. They did some things out of order, which slowed
down the whole production. “It was pretty rough there at the beginning.
None of us, including myself, knew how to do what we had set out to do.
We had done some cool things and gotten some bragging rights but we
hadn’t accomplished what we set out to do, which was getting something
on film,” says Lynch. “After the first year I finally felt like we had
gotten our sea legs and were able to stand up. We were starting to
become a team, a team with a direction. I can only thank God and all of
our members, that during that time we didn’t lose the interest of any
members of our group. In fact, I don’t even feel like we were going
backward in any way, but instead, each of us were growing in our
individual ways.” Rachel Stolberg, Director of Art and Costuming said,
“Whatever we do or don’t accomplish in this movie, it’s really the
investment in the kids that matters at this point. We’re all coming
together, learning new things and being pushed to succeed, and that’s
what I believe is the real value to this group.”
What these young people have pulled off so far has been
impressive. None of them seem to look at their age as a reason to hold
back. Today the group is still very ambitious and is going all out in
the final push to complete their first project. While many questions of
how it will be done are still unanswered, one thing is for sure: they
wouldn’t have gotten this far without God. “Isn’t it great to know that
the Lord of the universe is personally involved with what we’re doing?
So many times it looked like everything was falling apart until we
decided to talk to him. And immediately, like I’ve never seen before,
everything became clear,” says Jeremy Lynch.
”We’ve all learned a lot along the way, and it’s not over yet. We are
super excited to see how our movie turns out. Of course, we can’t
reveal any details as of yet; not even the name. Only that it’s a
sci-fi based comedy, and we think you're in for a treat.”
