Judging

  1. The judging committee consists of JJC faculty, staff, and industry professionals.
  2. All decisions of the judges are final.
  3. If in the event of a conflict, tie or recount, the CIOS department chairs' decision will be final.

Judging Criteria

General

  • A web site for which a developer was paid, is not eligible.
  • No copyright or trademark violations.
  • Content must be appropriate for general public.
  • Use of correct grammar and spelling.

Visual Design / Layout

  • Visual Appeal
  • Website Layout consistency
  • Page Layout consistency
  • Design Appeal
  • Style
  • Proper use of typography

Interactivity

  • Ease of navigation.
  • Site engages the user.
  • Good use of hyperlinks, no broken links.
  • Logical structure of sites.
  • Good use of images, video, audio, Flash, etc.

Technical

  • Load time for site & browser compatibility.
  • Compliance with W3C HTML and Accessibility Specifications (validation logo required).
  • (X)HTML and CSS validation ensures that website code is portable, maintainable and focused on accessibility. Validate your (X)HTML through the "Markup Validator" and your CSS through the "CSS Validator". Add the W3C validation logos to your website after your files are successfully validated.
  • Use of HTML features, CGI scripts, JavaScripts, Java applets.
